Wii U, Nintendo's Newest Console: What Impact Will It Have in The Market?
Nintendo launched their latest console this week, hitting the market right before the start of the upcoming holiday season. Their ultimate goal is to capture the attention of consumers long enough to convince them to spend over three hundred dollars on their new toy because they actually need it, as opposed to accessorizing the devices they already own.
Facing the challenge in this extremely crowded space of consumer electronics, Nintendo has their hands full having to shift the consumer's attention from their smartphones and tablets to a new system, that in my opinion does not offer enough of a wow factor to make a blip on the radar.
I personally believe the Wii console was onto something back in 2006 when it debuted, but somewhere down the line, it seemed to have lost something. Zelda and Super Mario Bros. has not been enough to keep Nintendo in the fight to stay on top.
Now it seems, Nintendo is making an attempt to stay relevant in a market being dominated by other consoles providing consumers with an overall entertainment experience that we have grown accustomed to over the last few years.
But if you are still interested in purchasing the Wii U, ask yourself these questions before shelling out your hard earned cash.
- What does spending $349.99 on game console mean for you and how will it change/improve or even simplify your life?
- If you already own the Xbox 360, PS3 or Wii, what will you get out of this console that you do not or will not get from what you already own?
- Being that gaming consoles are no longer exclusively being use for games, will this change how you watch TV?
