Marissa Mayer: Stirring Up Yahoo
Reading post after post regarding Marissa Mayer, CEO of Yahoo and the now infamous leaked memo to her employees has become in my most honest opinion, utterly ridiculous. Her decision as a CEO to make changes to an ailing company should have absolutely nothing to do with the fact that she is a woman or a parent, yet it does. Judging her based on her decision to shorten her maternity leave, or using social media to help name her child has gotten in the way of her extensive career and expertise as one of the leading Product Managers in the world.
Decisions she makes in her personal life should have no reflection on her ability to efficiently and effectively run a company, but somehow it does. I believe this has become an all out attack on her and her credibility as a successful leader. Reading headlines throughout the web saying she is 'waging a war against working parents', or how she is 'setting women back fifty years' is what I believe to be a bullish move to create sensationalism on a topic that would, for the most part, go unnoticed had it come from a male CEO of a Fortune 50 company.
Marissa Mayer is a CEO and was hired to save a financially hemorrhaging company. She was hired to clean up the mess and make it a successful entity, not to coddle, play gender favorites or be sensitive to those who don't want to play by her rules.
