How to Protect Our Children From The Danger of TV Tip-Over: GIVEAWAY {CLOSED}
For me, there is nothing like watching a good movie, TV program or baseball game on a beautiful flat panel TV with all the bells and whistles, but I find that our current love affair with flat panel TV's often puts our children at risk due to improperly securing them. I have two children under the age of five and know just how inquisitive and curious they can be. They see climbing on top of a TV stand as adventurous while we see it as a potential visit to the ER. This is why staying one step ahead of them although can be downright exhausting it is something we need to do to ensure their safety and our sanity.
When dealing with TV safety, it is important to keep in mind, just because the newer TV models are lighter than the cathode ray tube (or CRT) TV's does not mean we should not be taking measures to properly secured them and avoid injuring those closest to us.
Just take a look at the shocking statistics published from a 2011 US Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) report.
- A child is killed every three weeks from an unsecured TV
- Every 45 minutes a child visits an emergency room due to a TV tip-over related injury
- Between 2000 and 2011, 215 fatalities have resulted from TV tip-over
- An estimated 17,000 people each year, the majority of which are children, are treated for injuries from TV tip-overs
- Reported cases have increased almost 25% from 2006to 2010, and over the last 10 years, injuries have increased by 31%
The report indicates these injuries can be prevented if we simply take the proper measures to safely stabilize and secure our TV's. Take a quick look at the video below as it shows just how easy a child can hurt themselves, and some safety measures we should all be taking to make our home more secure for our loved ones.
