As the mother to two boys, a four and a half year old and three and a half month old.  I have had my fair share of diaper experiences, but nothing could have prepared me for my first lesson on how to properly handle changing a boy.

My most memorable experience I have had took place well over four years ago when my son was about a week old. I had just been released from the hospital after spending four days there, and my husband and I were gearing up for our first weekend with our baby boy. Since we were so anxious and had no clue what we were in for we both got up for the midnight feeding/diaper change, he fed, I changed, all was good.

About two hours later, I get up to change and feed him and find baby boy soaking wet from head to toe.  I assumed it was spit-up but soon realized it was urine. I was confused but did not think much about it. Changed him, fed him, put him to bed.  I get up few hours later to continue the routine to find baby boy drenched in his own urine once again. This time, I vocalize my confusion as I was unsure of what I was doing wrong. After hearing my rant, my husband shuffles over to inform me the reason he is soaking wet is probably because his 'equipment' is not facing south.

AHA! So that's what I was doing wrong!

And to drive his point home, my husband continued by adding, "of course it goes down if not, we would all be peeing in our faces".

But to my defense, before having my son I had never handled babies and not being equipped with such plumbing, how was I supposed to know the rules?

Being the mom of these two gems have taught me there are teachable moments in everything I do with them. Including something as simple as a diaper change.

For me, being able to count on a brand such as Huggies to offer my children long-lasting protection allows me to focus on what truly matters.
